It's
not all that often that certified gold records come our way, so when a
band like the Misfits brings one home, it becomes that much more
special. The legendary horror punk rockers' 4xCD coffin-shaped box set
was recently recognized for going gold, as sales officially crossed the
500K mark this year. • In what seems to be a never ending story
involving New Found Glory and hardcore/punk label, Bridge Nine, we now
understand that the band will be going out on a summer tour to support
their latest release, Tip of the Iceberg. • K7 records have
recently confirmed that South London's critically acclaimed and very
much underground dubstep producer, Burial, is slated for the next
installment of their DJ Kicks series. • Former Skid Row frontman and TV
mainstay, Sebastian Bach, will be hitting the road with Poison and
Dokken for a full US tour this summer. Look for these bad boys to rock
a town near you. • Finally, check out the free MP3 download for "Lovetoy", taken from the upcoming Plantlife record, Time Traveller, out May 13 on Decon.
"Liar liar, pants on fire, You're not gangsta, you're not street, You just make yourself sound gangsta, When you're rapping to the beat..."
Lyrics taken from Dizzee Rascal's' latest single, "Where's Da G's". The new album, Maths + English, is out April 29th on Def Jux.
NFG In the late 1970's and early 1980's, the Punk scene gave birth to
Hardcore. Beginning in California, Washington DC, Chicago and New York,
and with limited access to recordings studios and distribution, bands
took to the D.I.Y.(Do-It-Yourself) production approach. Albums were
recorded on four-track tape machines, the music was sold at shows and
the marketing consisted of home-made posters placed locally and in
neighboring record shops. Bands like Black Flag, Bad Brains and Minor
Threat were known only within their region's scene, but quickly became
world renowned and highly respected for their initiatives. And like
many genres, Hardcore has splintered and influenced other styles
including Metalcore, Post-Hardcore, Emo and Pop-Punk. One such band
that felt the impact and importance of hardcore is Florida's New Found
Glory. Formed in 1997 from former members of Hardcore stalwarts Shai
Hulud, NFG are well known for their energetic live shows, sense of
humor and overall candor. The group has been on a number of
high-profile world tours including their stint with Blink-182 and many
headlining appearances at the Vans Warped Tour. In the ten years
they've been together, New Found Glory have sold millions of albums and
influenced an entire generation of bands. Now, as a tribute to their
Hardcore roots, NFG are releasing Tip Of The Iceberg, an EP
which features 3 new songs and 3 cover songs from Hardcore legends
Gorilla Biscuits, Shelter and Lifetime. But this didn't satisfy their
love for the genre. They created a new band, The International
Superheroes Of Hardcore, as their Hardcore Superhero alter-egos, with
guitarist Chad Gilbert taking over on vocals and vocalist Jordan
Pudnick on guitar. In true DIY fashion, The International Superheroes Of Hardcore is a full-length record that comes packaged with Tip Of The Iceberg.
New Found Glory/International Superheroes of Hardcore- Tip of the Iceberg/Takin' it Ova, is out on April 29th on Bridge Nine.

delirium of rock 'n' roll & air punchingly anthemic."-NME
"It's what makes them one of the few Next Big Things with staying

makes it the band's best yet."-Village Voice

relationships and bad sex and somehow finds sparks of hope in
mountains of crushing hopelessness."-The Onion

Featuring: BORIS
Japanese
genre-benders Boris are back! Hooray! Although relatively unknown in
their native Japan, Boris have gained a rabid following in the US
thanks to their totally heavy live shows, exquisitely packaged albums,
constantly evolving sound and, of course, tiny female lead guitarist
Wata who shreds a Gibson like it's no big deal. Oh she's got a wall of
Orange amps too, so you can hear her blowing your mind from a mile
away. In 2007, Diwphalanx Records released a limited edition 7" of Wata
covering the Beatles' I Want You (She's So Heavy). Perfect, right? Supposedly those can be purchased at Boris shows or probably online somewhere. Boris' Smile can be purchased everywhere in the US on April 29. Minds will be blown by Boris in select cities across the US this summer.
Boris' Smile is out on April 29th on Southern Lord.
Bake Up Boyz
Straight
out of Michigan emerges a second-generation rap family, the Bake Up
Boyz. The group's line-up consists of four "Wolverine State" natives
with an affinity for fortune, fame and flossy things: Dirt, Bub, Loot
75 and Young Jino. Although the Bake Up Boyz have been a group just
under two years, the members have known each other for most of their
lives. Dirt, a genuine boss and leader of the family with Master P,
Donald Trump, and Bill Gates' influences, delegates authority while
preserving the group's image with a stylish gangster strut. Known on
the block as the Commander-in-Chief, Dirt has been running this dynasty
since the early MC Breed days of the '90s. Bub, Chief Counsel or
Consigliore of the clique, has the unassuming style that is often
questioned but never confronted. While his poker face masks a
"hustle-til-I-die" ego, his lyrics also give you a glimpse of his
"poppin' tags" mentality. Enter Loot 75- Loot for his "gimmie-the-loot,
stick 'em up" approach and 75, paying homage to his hometown off of
Interstate 75. Though his addiction to the fast life and fearless
disposition granted him a government sponsored vacation (early in
life), this rehabilitated Romeo is all about the three H's: Hip-Hop,
honies, and holding down the hood.Young Jino, is considered the bambino
or nephew to the empire. His "in-your-face,
I-think-you-got-me-confused" demeanor is present both in his lyrics and
stage presence. Jino's style is versatile. He can spit like a thug from
the derty-derty or flip it and rhyme like a west-side cat with NY ties.
Bake Up Boyz' Fresh Out Da Kitchen is out April 29th on Phase One.
